SPS 2003: Uninstalling default web parts

Asked By: Viral Gulati         Date: Nov 25, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 181

From what I can tell so far, there are quite a few Web parts that come
as a default from Microsoft with SharePoint installation. When I look
at the list of Web Parts available for a Web gallery, most of these
appear as Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls.webpartname (i.e.
Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls.AdvancedSearchControl or
Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls.Audience_List). A lot of them a
user would never need, but I assume they are there because they already
serve a function within the application.
Has anyone been able to make some of these Web parts not show up on this
list? (I understand that the end user would only see the Web parts
available through the Web gallery, but it makes the job of every
Top-Level site administrator more difficult to sort through this list
and identify only the Web parts that might be useful on their site (when
they are picking the Web parts for their specific Web gallery)).
I would very much appreciate any help on this.
