SPS 2003 Server W/ Latest Service Pack Mysteriously Needs Up

  Asked By: Madeline Francis         Date: Jul 29, 2007      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 192

We have a baffling situation. Our production portal server's WSS 2.0
Virtual Server List page (http://XXXXXX:7569/vslist.aspx) lists the
columns:
* Name - the name of our server (correct)
* URL - (correct, http://<machinename>)
* Version - 6.0.2.6568 (correct)
* --- UPGRADE --- (?????)

Why does it say upgrade, when we have the latest service pack
installed? Additionally, when we click the Portal Site Name link, the
SPS 2003 "Upgrade a server or virtual server" help window appears. We
are not able to navigate to other admin functions.

Our portal appears to be working fine otherwise.

We have just this one WFE and a clustered SQL Server 2000 provisioning
database.

Does anyone know if some other Windows Service Service Packs or
hotfixes could have caused this?

Sometimes after you put Service Packs on a web front end you have to
manually upgrade the Virtual Server to the newest version. There's an
STSADM operation, upgrade, that will do this. Just hop out to a Command
Prompt, run that STSADM command, and you should be fine.
