Did you configure the search in the SPS Admin ?

More likely this means that the crawler cannot find the portal. Are you
using any special type of authentication (Basic, Anonymous, SSL)

I will recommend rebuilding the indexes fram scratch

My configuration is currently set at Integrated Authentication using
SSL. I have included all paths:

http://*/*
http://server_name/*
http://ip_address/*
http://fqdn_name/*

I tried both http and https and still no luck.

I'm using a domain account that has access to the portal to crawl. I
used to get an access is denied but no longer getting that message.

How do I rebuild the index?

Actually, when I use https in the include paths, I get this message:

The address could not be found, (0x80041223 - Error found in the Secure
Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate sent by the server. )

Do you have a valid certificate or one that you made yourself

I got the certificate from Entrust. I'm getting this message on all 3 of
my servers.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one that's having this searching
problem? I've ran out of ideas and still hoping to get some advice or
recommendations from anybody in the group. I definitely do not want to
rebuild my 3 servers. I can understand if this problem was on 1 server,
but all 3?

to do that?

I did narrow down my problem. When I remove SSL, it works fine but as
soon as I make SSL required, it doesn't work. Has anybody applied SSL to
their portal site and if they have seen this search problem?

There is a place in the Search Admin

SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration > Manage Search Settings
> Search Server Settings

Where you can ignore SSL Certificate Name warnings

Check the box and report results

Thanks. I just figured this out when I was navigating around in the
Admin page. And now it finally works.
