I have done a successful restore  in 2003, and yes I had to delete out the portal
site first before running the restore utility. Otherwise, I kept on getting an
error that the site already exists. This feature is almost similar to the one
in 2001 where if you do a restore, then everything that was previously there
would get wiped out.
