SPS 2003 - Mirror farm for trial upgrades

Asked By: Angie    Date: Dec 24    Category: MOSS    Views: 1186

I have been given the green light to begin pricing, estimating and
pre-planning for an upgrade of our Intranet from 2003 to MOSS 2007.

As part of this, we want to get a "mirrored" environment set up of our
SPS 2003 Intranet. This mirror should be a representation of our
production in order to do an offline or test upgrade on before doing the
actual production farm. Is this possible to do? Can anyone give some
advice or guidance as to this?

Our current environment's high-level blueprint is as follows:

- Medium Server Farm / SPS 2003 / WSS v2.0

o 2 Front End Web Servers / Search & Query

o 1 SPS Job / Index Server

o 2-node SQL 2000 A/P Cluster

- Approx 4,382 User Profiles

- 12 Portals (structured according to business groups)

o corporate.steris.com is Shared Services provider to child-portals

- 48 Content (SITE) dBs (4 per portal)

o 18379 MB of data total

o 2977 sites

o 7150 webs

o 31173 lists

o 296235 items

- 98 Audiences

- 467 alerts

- 5 Search Indexes

- 26 Content Sources

- 14 Search Scopes

Also, this environment is very low-customization and almost 95%
out-of-box functionality.

We are thinking the In-place upgrade option or the side-by-side. Unsure
