SPS 2003 Full Text search not returning results on Portal Content

Asked By: Karen    Date: Apr 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1453

When I do a Portal Search, I don’t get hits on words within a document (TXT or DOC). These documents come back in the results when searching for words that are contained within the metadata information. WSS full-text searching is correctly bringing back results for words the documents. I have reset the content index on Portal Content and re-run a full update.

Any ideas?

Are you sure that the docs are being crawled successfully by the portal  content source?

I believe so...the files are included in the search  results when the
metadata matches the search criteria.

Just an update for anyone else who has come across this problem.

This problem was resolved by enabling the "Include in Advanced
Search Options" flag for the "About Me" selection option
under "Manage Properties of Crawled Documents". This was one of the
first fields my users requested to be removed, but apparently cannot
be removed without disabling the portal full  text search. You can,
however, rename the field to something more appropriate (I
used "Contents").
