SPS 2003 and Exchange 5.5

Asked By: Rey    Date: Apr 07    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1300

I'm fairly new to SPS 2003. Due to management and
political reasons, we will not be upgrading from
Exchange 5.5 for some time (even though we use Outlook
2003). I know SPS 2003 works well with Exchange 2003
but not with Exchange 5.5.

Are there any 3rd party products or other ways to have
SPS 2003 talk to Exchange 5.5 via web parts. Is there
any other advice any of you can give with this?

Not my area, but WSS v2 and v3 integration with Exchange is minimal. I
don't know of many WSS features that you won't have if you use Exchange
5.5 rather than Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2007.

In my opinion, the decision to not evolve past Exchange 5.5 will cost your organization a fortune. The development staff required to connect E5.5 to SPS may be cost prohibitive to achieve even a fraction of what Exchange 2003/2007 brings to the table of SharePoint integration.

I know you did'nt want to hear this..

My strategic, financial and logical advice would be to push for upgrade of your mail infrastructure as quickly as possible or hire an army of late-career developers who are intimate with Exchange 5.5.

You will not find much in the way of 3rd party as well, as software developers rarely R&D and develop products for dwindling markets of legacy technology.

Can you tell me (or point me to resources) that indicate “what Exchange 2003/2007 brings to the table of SharePoint integration”?

I came form the Institute and found out that my Exchange info had been lost. I kept my head and luckily solved out my trouble with the aid of an one utility. Which might be proper in this situation - www.exchangeinboxrepairtool.com
