SPS 2001 Error Refers to SPS 2003

I have a user who is getting this error message when trying to open a folder in
a web folder. Message: "To connect to a backward-compatible document library,
you must install the client components of the document library component for
Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003".

This message is being produced when using SPS 2001 (SP1). Has anyone seen this
error before and do you know what may be causing this error?
