SPS 2001- only 4 documents showing up when und user clicks

Recently only 4 documents (the most recent) appear when end user clicks a
category and the rest disappear but are still in the document library. I
have open ticket with MS for over a month but no resolution, has anyone else
encountered / fixed this?
