Spreadsheets only open in browser

I have a user that is having a problem opening spreadsheets in Excel from a
SharePolint document library.

Library is configured to open documents using the client application.

Library level permissions - user in question has Read permissions.

User is using Office 2007.

User clicks the title of the spreadsheet and the spreadsheet attempts to open in
IE rather than Excel.

Spreadsheet fails to open in browser as it contains links to external content
(not really an issue IMO since she should be able to open it "Read-only" by
clicking the document title in the library which is what I want her to do).

Behavior also occurs in a library where the user has Contribute permissions on
any spreadsheet with links or queries to external content.

Anyne have any ideas what's going on with this?

Got the chance to look at this more closely today. Fix recommended in the blog
Harold refered me to was not applicable. Folder options were already configured
corectly.

Further investigation and testing reveals the following:

1. Farm admin/Site collocetion admin can open spreadsheets in excel by clciking
the title of the document in the document library with no issues.

2. Users with "Contributor" and "Read" or "Restricted Read" permissions cannot
open a spreadsheet in Excel by clicking the title. If users in either of these
groups clicks the title the spreadsheet attempts to open using Excel services.

As previsouly stated there are external references within the spreadsheet in
question but that should not prevent a user with read or contributor permissions
from opening the spreadsheet in the client application.

Any ideas anyone?
