SPPS 2003 Alternate Mapping Problem

Asked By: Lacy Barker         Date: Dec 26, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 212

We have a SPPS 2003 Portal with serveral team sites under the site directory. We
have and alternate address for external access that uses SSL and client
certificates to map to Active Directory. The Certificate expired before the
renewal certificate could be installed. About the sametime access to the top
level portal has been broken. We can get to https://[FQDN]/sites/[site] fine but
if we try to go to https://[FQDN]/ we get prompted for a certificate and then
get an Error: You Cannot view this area, either the area no longer exists, or
because you do not have the rights to view this area. To chnage your rights,
contact the site administrator.

I'm the administrator. The rights should still be the same as they are for the
internal acces since it is just an alternate path. Any ideas?
