Anyone know of an easy way to delte old files from Portal Content
folders? Coordinators for Announcements and Events don't want to do
it themselves manually. Any ideas?

Are you using the Enhanced Announcements and Events web parts that
came with the Resource Kit? If not I would check those out as they
might help you out. The other suggestion I have is to create a vbs
file that goes only to those directories and deletes files  after
a certain time period. You would need to schedule that action to
occur, but I think your best bet would be to use the enhanced Announcements
and Eveents web parts and simply set a date not to display. The
web parts can be found on Microsoft's SharePoint site but if you
have any questionst just let me know.

The problem is not stopping the tiems from displaying, that
happens based on the End Date in the item. The problem is that after the end
date the items are still in the Announcements or Events folder respectively. How
do I address the folders in a scheduled vbs script? I have several vbs scripts
that we use to delte files  from shared folders after fourteen days. But in
those scripts the path is d:\foldername\ What would I use for the portal  ?

You'd do the same thing, except you'd have to modify your script to
support web folders (not drive letters) and you'd use
http://server/wksp/Portal Content/Announcements (or whatever the
location is).

www.sharepointcode.com should help you find some tips on how to
enumerate folders and delete based on timestamp.
