SPin.exe Migration tool Help

Asked By: Morgan Curry         Date: Feb 22, 2003      Category: WSS      Views: 1869

Has anyone been successful in importing documents using the recently
released SPin.exe tool from Microsoft?

I've managed to get my documents exported from SPS2001, creating
the .xml export file.

However every time I try to run the SPin.exe import tool, I get an
error saying "Not a valid site." The command line I'm using is:

spin.exe http://pmc.tbe.com/sites/newbizdev" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://pmc.tbe.com/sites/newbizdev
c:\exports\newbizdev.xml

I've tried many different variations the one listed above is trying
to import into a newly created site under my main portal site, I've
tried just using http://pmc.tbe.com (which is my main portal site).
Nothing works, no matter where I try to point the import I get "Not
a valid site" the site (newbizdev) was created using the team
workspace template and is a brand new site, nothing has been done to
it.

If someone has managed to get this to work, could you please post
what your command line was, and identify if you were importing into
a root portal, windows services site, or site collection?

Thanks beforehand for any help!

Remember that you're inputting the URL of the destination site. If
you're pointing to an area, then you need to use the /area switch.
