SPIN.EXE

Asked By: Jackson Davis         Date: Jan 06, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 308

I have been successful running spin.exe to import documents into a site.
But I can't seem to run it against a sub site within a site. Does
anybody know if this possible? If it's not, can somebody recommend how I
can move the documents in one document library into another document
library without losing the values for the metadata fields?

I created a new document library with the same metadata fields, but when
I tried copying the files via the Explorer View from one document
library to the new document library, I lose all the values for the
metadata.

This is a known problem in the released version of spin.exe.

If you call MS PSS, they have a private hot fix they can provide you.

They may ask you for a support account/credit card but you won't be charged
because this is a bug in spin.exe.

I got it from MS and it works great.

I was wondering if you can help me with another problem. I've been very
successful running  the SPIN.EXE. But for some reason, I encountered this error
message on one of the xml files  that I just created  using SPOUT.EXE:

XML cannot be parsed. Check the error log for more information.

I checked the error log and the only thing in the log was that it modified one
file name because it had an "&" in the name.
