Speccing out Hardware for Sharepoint 2007

Asked By: Sondra    Date: Jan 24    Category: MOSS    Views: 574

We have 500 users who use light to moderate. We are going with 2 WFE
and 1 SQL Box. We will be running 64bit. My question, do you think
have Quad Quad-core 2.8 Xeons with 32gigs of ram overkill for the SQL
box?

I think for 500 users you're in great shape. That SQL server won't be
sweating much, but I wouldn't scale it down any. If you've got the
money now, buy it. You'll thank yourself down the road when things
start scaling up.

Please let me know if i have a two server one having moss and the other having
sql server which should be more powerful. The MOSS server or the Database
server.

In the environment I run, the SQL box is considerably more powerful.
The WFEs do a lot of work, but the work seems to be easier than the SQL
work. I wouldn't skimp on either.
