SPD Workflow not working - System Account

The below error is making me crazy - it disables the workflow - I check
the workflow its fine - what to do???

I have this at random error occur? 7/7/2008 2:47 PM Error System
Account
The e-mail message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail
settings for the server are configured correctly.

I have not changed anything in SPD and the IT group tells me they have
not done anything??

Using WSS 3.0 > I have check ADMIN outgoing  email settings:
Server is OK,
From address: sharepointalert.xyz.com (should this be
sharepointadmin.xyz.com??) ,
REPLY to address: is sharepointadmin.xyz.com

Could this be permissions??? I created a new opp and the workflow
worked fine  - I had the user create a new one and no workflow??

From and Reply To should be something like user@... (an email
address), not user.xyz.com (a subdomain). Also make sure the SMTP
server accepts anonymous email as WSS/MOSS cannot send authenticated
mail.
