SPD 2010: Build Dynamic String is Missing

Asked By: Britney    Date: Jan 13    Category: Sharepoint 2010    Views: 6204

I have lost my mind. In SPD 2007 I use Build Dynamic string all the time to
concat column values with text. And I'm not seeing any other action that looks
promising. How in the world do I do this in SPD 2010? 'Set Workflow Variable'
sure doesn't allow me to combine text and column values. I am so lost and so
frustrated right now.

The actions you are looking for are in the Utility section. The Dynamic
String Builder has been incorporated into the 4 Extract Substring actions.
Add the Extract Substring from Start of string  to your workflow. Click on
the string field in the action and select the button with the three dots on
it. That opens the stringbuilder. The results are then saved to the
variable in the action. Using the other actions you can either build  a
string and then cut out a portion or pull a portion from an existing string.

how totally non-intuitive - but I'll give it a shot. Thank you so much!
Are there any resources out there for recovering SPD 2007 designers? Something
to ease this painful transition?
