We have a single content source configured that covers the main portal
URL, MySites URL, and AD user profiles. That content source is
configured to crawl everything under the hostname for each start
address, which includes our /sites/ directory. This content has been
crawled and content clearly shows up. If you search for a particular
item on a particular subsite (which are all stored in /sites/) from
the root of the SSP, results are returned. However, searching for the
same term on the subsite that contains the result via the "This Site"
option in the search dropdown returns no results whatsoever.

There doesn't seem to be any particularly obvious reason why this
should be the case, unless my understanding of how the crawl stores
information is completely wrong. It seems like the root and the
subsite searches should both be using the same store to get their
information.

Any hints? Having one working but not the other is frustrating, to
say the least.
