SP Portal - Asking for password all the time

My SharePoint portal has started to ask for password all the time. Every
attempt to do something on the page, as a user, is being prompt with the
password window. Sometime I need to enter the password several times.

Looked at the IIS and I can see the Error sign on the web site
directory.
Looked at the event log and the only error that I can see is regarding
"?:" directory, which Microsoft says to ignore that error.

What should I look into?

Not sure exactly why, but I would start by restarting the services. If
that does not work, then if you can reboot the server.

I did look at the IIS and saw a red error sign on the sharepoint web
site directory.
Then I restarted the IIS -> did not work.
Then I restarted the machine -> did not work.

I think all my troubles started after I tried to install Content Server
on the same machine. I think it damaged the BackOfficeStorage
environment and that is why the IIS has issues.

If any one knows something I would love to hear/read it.

I looked at the Knowledge Base in microsoft site and they are saying
that not to get excited over this. Just to restart the Default web site.

However what they are suggesting is not working and does not solve the
problems.

I have same problem (once a month) and I just restart all SPPS related
services. I start to investigate and I found some kind of problem when I want to
view the properties of MExchange Information store error:
Configuration Manager: The specified device instance handle does not correspond
to a present device. Did you got it?
Is your server a DC? (how your users authenticate?) Is the only user that can
login local admin?
