Most web parts don't use ActiveX. Have you been out to the
SharePoint Web Part library?

I have been to the site. I am
specifically looking for Weather and Stock webparts - the ones on
the Microsoft site contain active-x.

Yes - I have been out to that site. The 2 webparts that I am
specifically looking for are Weather and Stock. I am not finding
any others besides MSNBC's, which use active-x.

Are there any on plain RSS feeds that you could then consume in some
way?

Don't know how, but do know what the technology can probably do.

Yahoo has a wonderful Weather RSS feed.
