SP Designer Workflow - How to check for previous value/individual

Asked By: Urjita    Date: Jul 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 9054

Can SP designer workflow check for an individual field change or do a
workflow lookup of pervious version???

The problem..
We are trying to create a help desk ticket that has a tech(person)
assigned to it. When the tech changes, we want to email the new tech
that they have a ticket assigned to them. SPD workflow does not appear
to have the capability to generically check if a specific field has
changed or does not have the ability to look at a pervious list version
(assuming versioning has been turned on).

I really this could probably be done with an immediate alert but that
is not the preferred solution.

I assume this could be done in a VS workflow.

This probably isn't the solution  you are searching for, but I'm sure it can get
you started on what you are looking for. I used something similar to this, and
the cross site functionality from codeplex to create workflow  that checks a
metadata field  for a matching value and then copies that file to another doc
library. The only other thing I can think of, is a feature that comes with the
absences template in MS's Fab40 about delegation of responsibility, but I
honestly haven't looked that closely at it so I couldn't tell you if that would
help or not. Hope the link helps.

An event receiver will let you access the previous  values and new values
when a list  item is updating or has been updated.

You would write this in Visual Studio and deploy it as a feature.
