SP 2010 - BCS - Filtering external data by current user

Date: May 29    Category: Sharepoint 2010    Views: 2687

I have created an external table of user specific information in SQL
2008. I have a column in the sql table that has the username. In SharePoint
2010, I have created my external content type and can successfully get the data
to appear in a list. The problem is that I cannot get the list to filter by the
current user. I am using Claims based authentication with SAML. The user logs
in with their email address.

I have tried passing the User Context into a stored procedure but I am having
trouble getting that to work. I don't think the format of what I have stored in
my Sql table is matching what is being passed by the User Context. Anyway, I
also looked at manually adding the filter to the Read List option and
reimporting but I don't think I am doing that correct either.

Please, if you have a specific example of how to do this, I would really
appreciate it! I have googled and am not finding good resources. I feel like I
am close but am missing some vital steps.

BCS deoes not work well with Context Information. User ID cannot be passed
through BCS by using [Me].

We have Kerberos and delegation enabled, so we filter records for the current
user in the Database. This won't be possible if you are using NTLM. (I am not
sure how Claims Auth will work here, but sharing my experience if it helps). To
me it feels like you have to write a custom connector.

This may help you out a little bit.
