SP 2003 DataView webpart Issue

I'm using WSS 2003 with a DataView webpart I created in FrontPage.
The datasource for the webpart is a View on SQL Server 2005. The
webpart performs fine as long as there are records returned in the
view but if there are no records then I run into problems. After the
last record is deleted the webpart displays the typical "No records
found" message or something to that effect. If I add a record to the
View I still receive the "No records found" message. If I open the
page in FrontPage and examine the webpart, it's as if the webpart has
lost any association with the SQL Server View. My only option has
been to delete the webpart and start over. Any ideas?
