Can you smigrate a whole sub area to another portal?

Asked By: Alexandria    Date: Oct 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 582

I need to get most of the content from one portal to another new blank
portal. Will I have to smigrate each site I have created to get them
into the new portal? Or can I take areas or subareas over with smigrate?

Smigrate.exe is intended to work only with WSS sites. I've not tried it with a
portal area, but I don't think it will work.

I believe your only option is to back up the portal  and restore it to the
new location. You can't migrate portal areas. You have to recreate them

Close, its called “spsbackup”

Its like making an ISO of your portal. Very full fidelity and extremely useful in DR plans.

from MS? (SharepointPSAdmin.chm). All the pages 404 on me after I
d/load it.

Your help (chm) file display problems could be the result of a
security update which Serge van den Oever blogged about in February,
see weblogs.asp.net/.../438924.aspx.

(spsbackup.exe)…………….And the *only* tool you can use to backup and restore your indexes and content  sources.
