smigrate

Asked By: Ricardo Mcdonald         Date: Apr 15, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 295

I've just started using the smigrate utility to backup one of my sites,
but I noticed that it created 5 fwp files during the backup process. Why
are there more than 1 file and which one do I use to do a restore from?

You'll get multiple files  if the site you are backuping up is large. You'll
need all of them for the restore, and just use the same name you used when you
created the backup.

Do I restore  the files  in order? Right now the filenames are appended
with 1, 2, 3 and 4 at the end.

You only do 1 restore  and use the name without the number. These are a
"spanned" backup  set.

So the utility  is smart enough to know that the backup  is comprise of so
many files.

Yes, as I said it's a spanned backup  set. It's used to make sure the backup
files aren't too big.
