all sites to be visible on left nav but some to require login prompt before they are entered

Asked By: Lillian    Date: Sep 18    Category: MOSS    Views: 970

I have a problem for which I am sure there is an easy answer - I just cant find it.

I have a MOSS 2007 Internet facing site which is accessed using anonymous access.

I have a left nav of all my subsites some of which I want to restrict access to by throwing up a Login prompt.

If I stop inheriting the main site permissions (and switching anonymous access off) security trimming kicks in and the subsite disappears off the left nav to anonymous users.

I want all subsites to be visible on the left nav, but some of them to require a username and password before they are entered.

Not sure without trying it, so apologies in advance if this doesn't work but....

How about going into 'Modify Navigation' -> 'Add Heading' and linking to the url you want. That should put something into the NAV bar that doesn't get security trimmed. Downside being each link needs to be manually added.
