Site Usage data

Asked By: Devika    Date: Mar 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1474

I'm trying to ascertain who on my team has followed instructions and
gone to a site to set an alert for themselves.

But when I open the site usage page (usageDetails.aspx) I get the
following statement:

A usage report is not available for this site. Usage processing may be
disabled on this server or the usage data for this site has not been
processed yet.

How do I 'turn this on?'

Central SharePoint Admin - bottom of the screen is a link to configure
usage analysis processing.

How do I grant "STS_WPG" group read, write, and update permissions to
the directory? After I config this, do I need to stop/start IIS?

The usage  logs aren't going to display whether or not alerts have been
create by users, but there are various other ways to find out this info.

Give the STS_WPG group read, write, and update permissions to
the directory. Without these permissions, IIS cannot create or update
the logs

From reading the text, I would assume they are referring to the
directory where the log files are stored and that a user account on the
server itself needs to be granted permissions to this directory so it
can write the logs. I have not dealt with this directly myself, but
that is what I got out of the text. I would assume that you would not
need a IIS reset for this.

I guess those rights must be defaults anyhow because when I went and
checked my site  usage data  it was there. However as said, it
didn't tell me what I was looking for. In any event I learned a few
things stumbling through the SPS woods.

Is there no way to get usage  data on individual News items?
Or even a News SubArea? Or can you only get usage data  on actual "Sites?"

you could measure page  hits if people were clicking the news articles with the
sps report  pack. supposedly microsoft released a new version but i cant tell
the difference from the one that was originally released except that it doesnt
include the handy dep utility
