Site Template Contact List display issue

Asked By: Nelson    Date: Feb 17    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1092

I have a site I've saved as a template which displays the standard
Contact List web part I'm displaying only the First Name and Last Name
fields (because of my layout space is very limited in that web part
zone). The problem is that when I create a site from this template,
the web part display includes four fields: First Name, Last Name, Email
Address and Business Phone. I've tried the following with no success:

- Removing all but First and last name from the default view of the list
- Deleting these columns from the list (When the new site's created
Business Phone is added back in as a column)
- Modifying the column display within the Web Part using Edit this View

I've been going crazy trying to figure this one out - any help is
greatly appreciated.

You have the same problem  I had with templates. This is a known issue
with no fix - someone on this list  suggested that turning the template
into a site  definition would fix teh problem and give far more power,
but I didn't pursue this avenue, since I'm in an academic environment
and thus can use the opportunity to allow students to learn SharePoint
by restoring the defaults.

This is a known issue  when using templates. It always defaults back  to
the default  view when creating a new site. The only fix is to either
create a custom site  definition instead of a template  or to edit  the
page using SharePoint before saving the site as a template and change
the Listview webpart into a data form webpart. You can do that in SPD
by right clicking on the webpart and making the choice to convert it
from the context menu. Once you do that save the site as a template and
your custom design will stay.

Web Parts not retaining their settings in STP files is a known issue  and
I think it is fixed in SP1 that should be released later this year.
