Site Template

Asked By: Bhairavi    Date: Aug 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 591

From the Portal level, is there anyway to create a site template so that
when creating a new site, I can select a template. Or this feature only
available within the site level?

At the site level, I can create a sub-site and save it as a template. So
when I create a new sub-site within this site, then I see the option to
select the template. But I don't see this at the portal level, does it
exist?

Yes it does, but you need to have admin access to the SPS server to do so. The
templates are installed using stsadm. For details see the "Managing the Central
Template Gallery" in the admin guide at
www.microsoft.com/.../stsh\
05.mspx

Okay, I've found the command I have to use to add a central template
but I guess I'm keying it wrong or something because I keep getting a
command line error. I'm not very good at Dos commands; could someone
tell me what is wrong with my command?

stsadm.exe -o addtemplate -filename zeltech.stp -title Zeltech Site
-description Zeltech Site Template

(I tried adding the path location of my file too, which is
d:/zeltech.stp and it still didn't work)

Nevermind..just realized I had to put the title and description in
quotes. I guess because they have spaces.
