Site specific search

Asked By: Kristine    Date: Aug 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1327

Have anyone out here figured out how to search site specific, document
specific etc. Instead of using global search.

Product: SPS 2003.

You would need to setup a specific  search scope for each site, etc level.

If you look the magnifiing glass icon to the left of the quick search
box it will bring up the advanced search  screen where you can perform
property searches. This is similar to the Search screen on SPS2001 but
with some expanded options. I don't know why they didn't make this
feature more obvious - it's very usefull.

When I click on the magnifying glass icon it doesn't do anything.

SPS search  is a complex functionality that simplily does not works as
everyone wants.

SPS Search uses SQL FULL TEXT search, with a complex SQL query built
according to the users Search setting and other ponderations.

From our experiencie, SPS Search needs to work as simple as Google does.
That meas, when a user writes 2 words, this means "word1" AND "word2". SPS
Search does not do this thing, it generates a complex FULLTEXT search ...
and sorts documents according to its ponderation.

So .. what we do ?? We override SPS procedures and functions for search,
and then, SPS works as users used to search. Search equals to Google ...
and SPS Search must comply with this.

but there's at least a couple inaccuracies/options in there:

1) SPS search  does not use SQL Full Text Search - it is a seperate technology.
WSS uses SQL Full Text.
2) Search != Google. That is one model, centered around internet search of web
pages. SPS Search also can index a lot of non-web sources, as is centered
around enterprise search of multiple types of data repositories.

As for the rest, that's your opinion. Some like how SPS search works, others
don't. You're obviously in the latter camp.
