Site hits in share point portal server

Can anybody please let me know the method of capturing site hits in
a portal that is a share point portal server workspace portal.

There is a VBS program in Microsoft Sharepoint Resource Kit (also
a website) that shows the number of access times to a doc.

It retrieves such info from IIS log.

But up to now there's no better webpart for this yet. Would be
great if someone writes one (as I know nothing of VBScript or
Webparts dev).
