site creation error

Asked By: Holly    Date: Aug 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 901

When I tried to create a site, it resulted in an
error:

Method not found: System.Uri
Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities.SPUtility.AlternateServerUrlFromHttpRequestUrl(Sy\
stem.Uri).

This is what I did to create a site (which always
works for me for my other portals):
1. Go to Site Directory URL:
https://myServer/SiteDirectory/Lists/Sites/Summary.aspx
2. Create Site under Actions
3. Specify Title, URL name (including any of the
managed path), provide an email address
4. Then click Create.

I found that Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities.SPUtility
is in Microsoft.SharePoint.dll, and the DLL is in both
places: C:\WINDOWS\assembly and 60\ISAPI.

Does anyone have any idea where/what I should be
looking to solve this problem?

could you have at one point deleted the site  directory and re-added it?

maybe check this blog - mindsharpblogs.com/.../687.aspx

I checked the blog. No, this is a new portal and I
never deleted the site  directory.

After I Repaired the server components of the SPS
Server, the problem  mysteriously went away.

I still don't know what caused the "Method not found"
error though.

when in doubt - reboot, repair, reinstall, reformat! remeber the circle of R's!

i have always been scared to run a repair of a sharepoint  install
