My Site Configuration Issue

Asked By: Jill    Date: Jul 13    Category: MOSS    Views: 824

I am having an issue with configuring My Site functionality in MOSS
2007.

-I've created and extended a web application on the default port
-I've created a custom web application to host My Sites.
-Then, in Shared Services Provider, I configured the My Site Settings
page to use http://servername:8080/MySite/.

The problem I am running into is that when I try to create a My Site
from my default web site, I get prompted three times for a username and
password, and then land on a blank white page that says "401
Unauthorized".

I've tried this with several different user accounts, including my own,
a domain administrator account, and even the application pool identity
account. All combinations return the same error message.

Is there a step that I am missing?

I answered my own  question. If anyone else runs into this issue, the
answer follows:

In the custom web  application that set up to host  my sites, you need to
create a top-level site  using the My sites  Host template. When you go to
the new top-level site, there is a button to click to set up My Site
hosting.
