Single line of text won't wrap in list

Asked By: Shauna    Date: May 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 9533

I'm in a huge pickle and I was hoping someone out there could rescue
me.

I have a list that is grouped twice ('goals', then 'objectives' under
each goal). There is a goal that is very long and the line refuses to
wrap, so it forces the page to be way too wide for the screen. If I
change the content type to be multiple lines of text, SharePoint
won't let me group on it (per requirements - this field MUST be
grouped).

Having the end user shorten their goal is not an option.

I tried different views via Designer and there aren't any that look
better than the default view.

Any ideas/suggestions for getting this field to wrap the text?? Or
even shorten it with "..." at the end? ANYTHING to get the page back
to a normal size.

Have you tried to convert to a Data View in SharePoint Designer, then
editing the XSL for the web part to truncate the field  value?

I actually found 41 instances of "nowrap" on the page  so with a
little trial and error I figured out which 2 to remove.
