Hi, I am new at using Sharepoint 2010 and I'm having problems on checkin/checkout of documents in sharepoint.

Here's the Scenario:

we have created a “Document Library” web part and uploaded MS documents in it. But when we try to “check it out” on IE 8 we keep getting the error “This document could not be checked out. You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user.”. which is incorrect because it wasn’t checked out by anyone yet. But if you try to select two or more documents and check it out then we are able to check it out. It allows multiple checkout but restricts single check out.



Help please. How can we allow single checkout to work?\
