Shift Server on New Hareware Machine

Asked By: Aurelio    Date: Apr 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1165

I am shifting my Share Point Portal Server 2003 from lower spec hardware to a IBM x346 machine,

I was read in a knowledge base article that we required three backups for this practice.

SPSBACKUP …. Command line or GUI mode backup IIS (Metadata) from IIS Backup/Restore option Virtual Server physically files backup

I have taken first two backup successfully, but I am confused to get third backup of Virtual Server files, can any body tell me where these files are located on server and how to restore them.

Don't forget your SQL databases, back these up as well.

For full DR here is your list:

1. SPSBackup.exe
2. OS/System State/SPS Binaries
4. Virtual Server files (**in IIS Mgr right-click the Web Site-
>properties->home directory folder. by default its <inetpub>)
5. SQL Databases and Logs * CRITICAL you get this. This "IS"
6. Custom .dlls, 3rd pty webparts & apps

You can enhance this (do full fidelity backups, backup sites &
subsites, more granuar/controlled backups, etc) farther with the
following tools:

Add your IIS Metabase to that list as well.

Additionally, all of these tools listed can be scripted and (even
better) are free!

There are 3 "good" 3rd parties imo that also have SPS/WSS DR/Bakcup
applications based off the SPS object model that are worth checking
if you have the xtra $ and want to enhance this.
