SharePoint WSS 3.0

I am relatively new to SharePoint and I'm not doing real well w/it. Normally,
I'm quick to pick up new programs, but I just don't find this very intuitive.

At the moment I am having a huge problem w/it, and it really isn't with the
software itself really.

Everything was fine...I actually did this up last Summer, but it was shelved for
several months, due to other work I had. I went to use it, to get it ready for
"release" to my users, and it isn't working right.

I cannot login to do any admin work on the site. If I use IE, I get a "401
Unauthorized" error, and if I use FireFox, it appears to accept the login, but
won't show any of the menus...it does list that I am logged in as Administrator,
but none of the links for settings work.

At the same time this all occurred, the site got "ugly." What I mean is that all
the formatting went haywire...fonts are off, spacing is off, things are shifted
all around...it is ugly.

The really odd thing is that I found a single computer here in the office that
it works on. My boss has two PCs and one of them works. It is a Win 7 PC
w/FireFox 3.6.3...slightly older. It still gives the same results w/IE though.

Now here is odd thing part 2...on this same PC, it works sometimes, and doesn't
work others. It seems...and I just found this out about 15 min ago...that if I
enter "intranet" it doesn't work, but if I type out the entire url
"intranet.[domain].com/default.aspx" it works fine. I can tell as soon as I see
the site...if it is ugly it won't work.

I'm having a real hard time w/this software. I like what it says it can do, and
I've talked to people who love it, but so far I really do not like
it...extremely un-intuitive, and that is my biggest issue. The other thing is
that this MS product works better w/FireFox than its MS browser IE.

Sounds like you may have some restrictive security settings in IE. Is there
a corporate policy that locks it down?

SP is a beast. I was barely spelling SharePoint correctly after a year. Keep
with it! You'll get there.
