Sharepoint and wsp file

Asked By: Sheldon    Date: May 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1653

We are working on a team and one part of the team gave us a .wsp file
that i installed on the sharepoint server went to CA to deploy it which
it did fine, but when i went back to my top level site it loaded 20
custom list in the left pane. Which it should not of done, it should of
allowed me to create a new site then that site should of contained the
20 custom list. The weird part is when I went back to CA and retracted
the solution is not only removed the 20 custom list from the top site
but also all the other list that get generated when you create a basic
team site.

I would assume they have written some kind of Feature receiver to automate the
creation and removal of the custom  lists when the Feature is activated. I
suspect something in that code is buggy causing the lists to be created on the
root site  and removing all lists instead of specific lists when the feature is

The wsp  is really a cab file  and can be opened with any zip program. Open it
up and look at the manifest xml files. It sounds like there is some kind of
event reciever which basically picks up on the "Activate Feature" command
and fires off a set of actions such as creating lists, etc. So upon removal,
or deactive feature, the code for this wsp would probably need to be
updated. Tell the person that made it to look into it and test it again.
