Sharepoint user emails without AD

Asked By: Leslie    Date: Jun 15    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3643

I have a local SharePoint server set up on a VM, and for a quick demo, I need to
use the Windows Server 2003 built-in POP and SMTP email servers (versus setting
up a dev AD) to email users when tasks have been assigned to them.

So I have local system users created on my server, and have granted them access
to my site. To assign the user's email, I have gone into the SSP admin site, and
edited their profile. However, if I go into the site's People and Groups area,
and click on the "Actions" menu and click "send email to user" I still get the
error "No e-mail addresses were detected. Either no user was selected, or the
selected users do not have associated e-mail addresses..."

I can verify that if I click on a user, their email does appear in their
"details"... so why can't SharePoint find it?

279 views, no answers, no replies. I've got the same problem on my MOSS 2007 server. I've got a user whose email account has changed. It didn't show up correctly in the system even after running an import. I manually edited it via User Profiles and Properties. It shows up correctly but I get the same message as you unfortunately, and he's unable to sign up for alerts too. Any ideas anyone, or is this site not very helpful?
