Is Sharepoint the right tool?

Asked By: Cale Alford         Date: Sep 21, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 167

I've been asked to investigate Sharepoint for use in our marketing
department. Ultimately, we're looking for a way to automate workflow
in collaborative marketing projects, although the basic intranet and
document management features of the Services tool would be useful as
well. Anyone using Sharepoint for this type of work?

you could take a look at using Microsoft BizTalk Server with
SharePoint. BizTalk can be a bit daunting and is more B2B and Process flow
-- works well for well defined process/workflows. For a large enterprise,
Documentum has formal workflow management.

SharePoint has some basic/limited workflow-like functions such as e-mail
notification when documents or lists are updated.

My best recommendation would be to use SharePoint Portal Server 2003 with
Microsoft Project Server 2003. Project Server offers offers the better
answer for dynamic collaborative  projects and workflows.
