Sharepoint Template

Asked By: Darren    Date: Dec 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 687

Can anybody advice me how can I change the default sharepoint template
such that it reflects on all the sharepoint portal pages.

I have tried many links and articles available on the internet but
could not find the exact answer.

Templates can only be changed *before* they are applied - once a site has been
created using a template, you need to use other methods (e.g. FrontPage, WSS
themes, or CSS) to make changes.

Please explain this furthur, so do you mean that I can impliment a
particular template  only before I setup the Portal?

Also advice  me how can I change  the template once I have Installed
Sharepoint portal  server

Not exactly - what I mean is that a template  is only referenced when it is used
to create a new portal/area/site. For the portal  home, it would have to be
changed before the portal is provisioned (generally not possible). For a portal
area, it would need to be changed before the area is created, and the same for

In general the recommended way to do this is to copy the temaplte and edit the
copy FYI.

I had this same issue...I looked and looked at all the documentation ...it is
is an easy task to change  make a template  from an existing template ...plenty of
documentation to do this but to change the ...standard template to one that you
like ...is another story. But after much reading and experimentation I changed
the standard template to a template using the onet.xml file that is located in
the new template folder.

You have to understand the functionality of onet.xml to be able to change
it...study that puppy and you will be in good hands..it is the key...I cannot
explain it or the technology in one email just learn the onet.xml file and you
will be in good shape.
