Can anybody advice me how can I change the default sharepoint templatesuch that it reflects on all the sharepoint portal pages.I have tried many links and articles available on the internet butcould not find the exact answer.
Templates can only be changed *before* they are applied - once a site has beencreated using a template, you need to use other methods (e.g. FrontPage, WSSthemes, or CSS) to make changes.
Please explain this furthur, so do you mean that I can impliment aparticular template only before I setup the Portal? Also advice me how can I change the template once I have InstalledSharepoint portal server
Not exactly - what I mean is that a template is only referenced when it is usedto create a new portal/area/site. For the portal home, it would have to bechanged before the portal is provisioned (generally not possible). For a portalarea, it would need to be changed before the area is created, and the same forsites. In general the recommended way to do this is to copy the temaplte and edit thecopy FYI.
I had this same issue...I looked and looked at all the documentation ...it isis an easy task to change make a template from an existing template ...plenty ofdocumentation to do this but to change the ...standard template to one that youlike ...is another story. But after much reading and experimentation I changedthe standard template to a template using the onet.xml file that is located inthe new template folder. You have to understand the functionality of onet.xml to be able to changeit...study that puppy and you will be in good hands..it is the key...I cannotexplain it or the technology in one email just learn the onet.xml file and youwill be in good shape.
This is strictly SharePoint Portal 2003 area templates...understand thedifference...!Site templates are generally speaking for WSS sites....different animal.
I will go through onet.xml and see if I cam play around with it
