sharepoint site that can be used as repository of documents

I am new to Sharepoint. I dont know basics of sharepoint. I want to create a sharepoint site that can be used as repository of documents. I dont understand differnece between Windows Sharepoint Sever 2.0 and Windows Sharepoint Services 2.0. How can I get started? Please help me.

As far I know there is no windows sharepoint  server ,there is only winodws sharepoint services.I think no body is using windows  sharepoint services  2.0 its way old.
Microsoft as released wss 3.0 which is free version.First thing u should have good knowledge on .net.Then to start u should reah Inside windows sharepoint services 3.0 by Tedd Pattison

I guess you are talking about MOSS (Microsoft office sharepoint  server 2007) and WSS 3.0( Windows SharePoint services  3.0).

Biggest difference WSS is FREE:) Hurray... technically it is not... only that there are no user licenses for SharePoint. You still need to buy Win server os atleast.

SharePoint comes with few built in templates for managing teams, docs etc. Use those to do that.

I would suggest getting any SP book and just read through.
