Sharepoint Server Specs

I recently attended a training in DC for web
designers, but my infrastructure team is asking some questions that I
would want to consult more knowledgable people on. We are currently
running our MOSS platform off another agencies server. As we expand our
usage of Sharepoint we are realizing more and more that we need to be
in controll of our own stuff. So, we will be migrating over to our own
server shortly. The question is this: What type of specs am I looking
for in these new servers?
Here's my agency profile: 1,000 users, potentially multiple sub-
sites/could be alot of documentation, My Site for all users, money is
not really an issue.
What would you recommend wer go with for things like disk spcae, RAM,
etc?

I'd be looking at the HP sizing tool. Even if you're not a HP shop, it'll give
you specs that you can use for whatever flavour hardware you prefer.

Sizing Sharepoint properly is no trivial task. The hardest bit I found was
knowing how big the MOSS monster was going to be before building it. (I under
spec'd our requirements, and am in the process of throwing extra kit at the farm
as we speak).

You could also look at the sharepoint capacity planning tool.

I would always recommend, at least, a medium server farm. See any of the
MS Press admin books for details. It should also be on Technet
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263044.aspx

Generally, a medium server farm consists of 2 Web servers, each running
the query role. A third server running applications like Index, Doc
Conv, ECS, and Central Admin. Of course, this can vary greatly.
