Sharepoint Server Site not online.

Asked By: Oliver    Date: Sep 04    Category: MOSS    Views: 679

I recently bought a new server and installed SQL Server 2005 and
Sharepoint Server 2007 on it. I installed Sharepoint using the
advanced configuration options so that it would not install SQL
express. After getting everything installed and the initial
configuration run, I then went about enabling services and getting the
basic settings of the top-site set up. I created a couple of sub sites
and other things here however, I was unable to view any of these sites
from any other computer. Some setting must be checked somewhere or
something not set correctly. I am able to get onto the central
administration page perfectly fine from the server, but anything other
computer whether connected to the local domain or outside of the local
intranet are all unable to connect to my new sites.

Do you have a firewall blocking the ports those sites are on?

It is usually a DNS issue. Verify you can 'ping' from a client machine. Also,
verify you didn't create the subsites in the central admin web app. What is you
web application called where you created the subsites?

For a quick, down and dirty install walkthrough, you could pick up a copy of the
sharepoint admin pocket consultant.

I hear that's a pretty good book

The question that comes to mind to me is whether or not you've got alternate
access mappings set up properly along with the DNS of your local domain.
