Sharepoint Server and FTP Site

Asked By: Eddy    Date: Jan 04    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2341

I'm very new to Sharepoint and have a difficult task and that I
would need all the help I can get. I hope this isn't too confusing but
i'll do my best explaining it.

I have a request from a client that wants to turn his plain jane
website into Sharepoint. What do I use and how do I link his website
into sharepoint? If i were to create a new web part, how would it be
set up to where it's saved and updated to his website? Is that
confusing?

First off - a traditional website  can't be 'converted' into a
sharepoint site. It takes a little bit of work :). Here's kind of the
high level steps as I see them:

-Setup a sharepoint  farm
-Create a NEW sharepoint site  and 'port' the brand from his existing
website into the masterpages and aspx pages within sharepoint (there
are all kinds of best practices with this, feel free to inquire
further
-When all is done, change DNS or ip routing to send request  to new
farm/site

As far as webparts go, you might need to expain further.
