SharePoint security

Asked By: Kiara    Date: Dec 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 855

I heard wind that SP can lock down a document (doc, xls, html) to the
point that you can't even do any type of copy and paste. Only if you do
take a camera and snap a picture..

I personally don't think it's possible, but just want to run it by the
group.

Check out RMS server.. RMS Client must be installed before
you install SharePoint though for you to integrate it. It will lock  down
documents to the point that a person can only see it or whatever permissions you
want them to have. I have implemented this for Exchange integration also for
email so I know it works.

wondering if it will prevent copy  and pasting postings from
SP. Unless I have to place some javascript on every page, which will be
hell.

Most likely what you were hearing about is the Rights Management
integration in WSS3/MOSS - this allows you to lock  down certain actions
using IRM in Office clients (OOTB with MOSS) or other document  types
with additional "protectors".

No it will prevent copy  and paste................

That should be "will not prevent copy  and paste" - RMS is strictly to
protect document  content and requires both server and client components.
It does not protect web page content. Copy/paste of content in a
browser is implemented by the browser itself, so without protection
support in the client it cannot be prevented.

You can turn off web rendering of documents so you CAN prevent copy  and paste  by
not enabling that feature.
