Today my users ask me about sharepoint search.
Their questions are

- Do sharepoint searching from other database systems. If yes, what type of database that it can do such as db2,MS SQL.

- In case they kept data in sharepoint,is it posible to use the data from other applications.

I don't know how to answer,so could you please make me clear about these topics.

1. To search  another database, you need a protocol handler for that specific DB. http://www.vorsite.com has one for Documentum, for example. To bring the data  into SharePoint, you will need a transfer agent as well.

2. Once data is in sharepoint, it is simply referenced as an url. You can call that data from almost any application, we do that frequently to avoid thousands of firewall rules and the such.
