SharePoint: the reality series

Asked By: Katie    Date: Dec 11    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 969

As a KM grunt and project manager I'll be developing a series of articles for a
leading KM trade journal in 1H10 that showcases the efforts of project leads to
deploy SharePoint in their own enterprises.

The accent here is on reality: the imperfections, unreal expectations, and
garbled communications that come with the turf. Over the next six months I'll be
circling back with intranet managers, information designers, content architects,
etc. who've rolled up their sleeves and rolled out successful SharePoint
implementations (warts and all).

The purpose of these use cases is to draw practical guidelines and transferable
lessons from the project deployment trenches, including:

1) Key takeaways -- SharePoint as a test bed for building best search, taxonomy,
provisioning, and site navigation practices.

2) Meaningful milestones -- Connecting deployment goals, needs assessments, and
user expectations to the hard realities of budgets, deadlines, and infighting --
especially as contractual terms are bent and agreements are scaled back.

3) Impactful metrics -- How such wisdom translate into dollars in terms of
recouped IT savings, workflow efficiencies, consolidated systems, etc.

We will also explore what connection these recent histories share with the
dramatically retooled SharePoint 2010 on the horizon.

Interviews will be conducted with team members of sponsoring SharePoint
organizations. However, if you're a vendor or consultant feel free to share this
invitation with clients who are interested in participating along with some
background on your own participation.
