SharePoint - Multiple Logon Prompts

Asked By: Israel Haynes         Date: Nov 08, 2007      Category: MOSS      Views: 933

Why do some users get multiple logon requests with SharePoint? (Either
SPS2003 or MOSS 2007...)

I just upgraded the server and got the: It would be really nice if we
didn't have to logon 3 times to open an Office document.

(This does not happen to me.)

The users base does have the SharePoint 2007 server in the list of
trusted sites in IE.

IE7, unlike IE6, does NOT have 'automatic logon  with current username
and password' turned on for Trusted Sites. This has caused this issue
often with IE7 upgraded machines.

I may be misremembering, but I think the Intranet zone in IE7 does the
automatic login now.

The Intranet Zone has always had this turned on by default. I think
what Ben was saying was that in IE6 it was also enabled by default for
the Trusted Sites Zone. This is no longer the case. You have to enable
it manually for Trusted Sites in IE7.

That has been my experience as well. You can doublecheck by going to Tools ->
Internet Options -> Security -> Custom Level. Go all the way to the bottom of
the list and there is the setting for automatic logon.
