SharePoint and MSProject

Asked By: Cesar    Date: Jul 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1444

I use MSProject for many of my project Gantt charts. Of course, this is information I'd like to share with other team members using SharePoint. I can use the "tasks" web part but that means updating data twice and becomes very cumbersome. I can save the Gantt charts as a PDF and display this image in a web part, again very ugly.

What I am looking for is a way to use the functionality in MS Projects in SharePoint. As I made changes to the Gantt chart it dynamically updates for all to view. Since I am asking for the world I'd also like all of my users to be able to view this web part without having MS Project installed.

Install MS Project SERVER 2003. It integrates into portal through WSS. All
your users  can use PWA (like OWA - Outlook Web Access) which is a browser
based interface. Yes you need to buy MS Project Server and OWA Client Access
License - it will add great set of functionality  (Web Parts) but there is a
$$ cost with MS Project Server and PWA CAL.

What you have described is Microsoft Project Server. Be aware that it is a
Intranet solution. Some functionality  can be exposed on an Extranet but
users that alter the WBS must have access to the LAN file share  where the MS
Project files are kept.
